Famous among the local population of the Peruvian Amazon, Ungurahui is known as the secret to thick, shiny hair, but also to frizzy hair.
There are many varieties of palm trees in the Peruvian rainforest. Some are used for housing construction, others for crafts, and others as fruit. The Ungurahui is part of the latter group. The ungurahui, whose scientific name is oenocarpus batana, is a palm tree that can grow up to 25 meters tall. The fruit is a small, dark berry, about 3 cm in diameter, with a sweet and sour flavor. It is eaten alone, in fruit juices, and ice cream. Its nutritional value is comparable to that of meat and breast milk due to its high content of protein, carbohydrates, and essential fatty acids.
The use of the oil extracted from its berries is ancestral knowledge in the Amazon, especially for indigenous women who use the pulp and oil to perform beauty rituals and naturally treat hair loss.
This fruit contains 63 times more vitamin E than avocados, making it a powerful antioxidant, preventing the spread of free radicals in tissues. And because it's fat-soluble, it's easily incorporated into cell membranes, protecting them from oxidative damage.
Ungurahui oil is also rich in oleic acid, which has a healing and regenerative effect on scalp cells, and this is thanks to its absorption power in order to provide nourishing nutrients.
